gmat-nyc.com : GMAT : Course

Welcome to our GMAT course! We hope that all of your questions will be addressed here. If that is not the case, please do not hesitate to write us an email!

Our mission

Originally our course was targeted exclusively to candidates who had to score extremely well, because of the high competition for their desired programs. Experience has shown us, however, that many candidates who do not plan to apply to top business schools take our course and achieve scores well beyond their expectations, also.

Course outline

After registering for the course, you will receive a list of suggested readings to prepare for the course. We assume that you will have familiarized yourself with the format of the test before the course. We recommend that you read the 'Official Guide for GMAT Review', which is published by ETS, the organization administering the test. Please read in the FAQ how you can conveniently order this book and other preparation material over the web. Before the class begins, we will send you a complete test, which you have to complete at home and return to us, so that we can evaluate the level of preparedness of the course participants and accordingly adjust our course.

The course lasts for one weekend and is presented in lecture format. Numerous handouts will be distributed to the course participants and in the exercises we will discuss not only the right solutions, but also the most efficient methods that can be used. Specifically, lesser-known techniques will be introduced to help you solve the GMAT questions faster and with higher accuracy.

After the course, you will work through our complete collection of exercises. You will then take another complete test and send us your answers. We will grade them and send back the results to you together with further suggestions for studying. It is important to mention at this point that our course is not a substitute for extensive training. For that reason, you should ideally take the real test approximately three weeks after the course and train hard in the meantime.

The advantage over books and CDs

We are asked frequently about the advantages of preparing with us rather than with books and CDs, which are available in countless numbers. We happily admit that you can prepare fairly well with these materials - that is, if you do not need a top score on the test. We are certain that everybody who takes our course will gain a higher score than if they prepared exclusively with texts. The weakness of preparing with books and CDs only is that all such materials are written for the American mass market and the majority of those applicants do not apply to top business schools. The authors of the books target an average MBA applicant and leave out more complicated tips & tricks, which can make the difference between a good and an excellent result. If someone in the US wants to score extremely high on the GMAT, he or she would also visit a course or even get a personal coach. The best trainers in New York charge a $300 per hour fee (Source: New York Times 9. August 1999)!!

To sum up, preparing in our course has the following major advantages over preparation with books and CDs:

  • We provide Tips & tricks which are not readily available in the common test preparation literature
  • No book or CD will grade your analytical writing assessments or answer your questions
  • We supply illustration of solutions and concepts with original questions, which can not be used in test preparation books because of copyright laws
  • Visualization and discussion in a seminar environment enables you better to recognize complex structures than non-interactive ways of studying
  • Our class will be more motivational and fun during preparation!

Finding a good GMAT prep course that is not outrageously expensive has always been quite difficult, and this places some applicants at a significant disadvantage as compared to their more affluent counterparts, who have had many more opportunities to prepare for the test with professionals; however, having seen this need, GMAT NYC decided to fill it, and we now offer our extremely successful (but more affordable) course in New York. If you do not have the extensive time or financial resources necessary to take a longer course, or are interested in the more up-to-date methods and personalized attention of a GMAT NYC course, please contact us to find out when we will be offering the next course!
